J4Joy Boxing Promotions has finally paid World Boxing Federation (WBF) ring officials, a month after the promotional outfit’s cancelled tournament in Durban.
This was confirmed on Tuesday by Cape Town-based WBF president Howard Goldberg, who is a former fight judge and referee.
“They paid this morning (Tuesday) and we have paid our officials. I have to give them a bit of a credit even though they paid one or two days late. They honoured their debt,” Goldberg said.
Ring officials Siphiwo Mbini, Lulama Mtya and Siya Vabaza-Booi had been appointed to officiate in a WBF bantamweight title contest between reigning South African champion Ronald Malindi and Jorge Luis Orozco Mendoza from Mexico while Cape Town-based Eddie Marshall, who turned 68 on Tuesday, was going to be the fight supervisor.
