Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi pulled the trigger and sacked the club’s head coach Morgan Mammila and returned Kurt Lentjies to the coaching position on Monday.
Losing 2-1 to struggling Swallows FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Sunday proved to be the last straw for Mammila, who’s been coaching the Chilli Boys since early September last year.
Mammila, a former Baroka FC chief executive officer, had a bright start at the Eastern Cape club as he won four straight matches. However, the club’s fortunes changed for the worst after they returned from the FIFA World Cup break in December.
TheyGqeberha-based Chilli Boys have only won once in their last 10 matches and have since moved down to 14th spot after having been inside the top-eight bracket for some time.
