Paris Saint Germain and Argentina star forward Lionel Messi walked away with The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2022 award at a ceremony held in Paris, France, on Monday evening.

Messi, who led his native Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory in Qatar last December, has won the award for a record seven times. The 35-year-old former Barcelona forward beat his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema to the award.

Messi’s compatriot Emiliano Martínez won The Best FIFA Goalkeeper award after he did well between the sticks for Argentina during last year’s World Cup tournament. 

Meanwhile, Argentina national team coach Lionel Scolani whose contract has just been renewed walked away with The Best Men’s Coach of the Year award.
