Orlando Pirates became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup after they beat amateur side Dondol Stars 5-4 on penalties at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday evening.
This quarter-final encounter was decided on spot kicks after the two sides had played to a 1-1 draw in two hours of football.
Following a goalless first half, the Buccaneers were the first to score when Thembinkosi Lorch gave them the lead in the 55th minute. Three minutes later, the Pretoria-based Gauteng ABC Motsepe League log-leaders equalised through Tebogo Makungo.
