After surviving relegation on the last day of the DStv Premiership programme, Chippa United are going to have a new coach to lead them when the new season starts in August
This was revealed by Chilli Boys chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi a few days after the Gqeberha-based side retained their Premiership status following a goalless draw with Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Former Lesotho national team captain Lehlohonolo Seema was given a mandate to be in charge of the Chilli Boys’ last four matches of the season where he managed to pick up four points and saved the team from relegation or finishing in a play-off spot.
“No, we are not going to continue with Seema. The arrangement that we had was that he was going to be in charge until the last match of the season. There was nothing beyond that. I’m now busy looking for a new coach,” Mpengesi said.
The Chilli Boys boss also revealed that they plan to return to playing some of their home matches in East London next season. The Gqeberha-based club couldn’t play some of their home matches in East London after Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium was deemed non-compliant by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
“We will help the people in East London before we play some of our home games there again. Sisa Dukashe was not compliant and the Buffalo City Stadium still has floodlights problems. These two months before the beginning of the next season I will look at the Buffalo City Stadium and make sure that everything is ready by the time the new season starts,” Mpengesi remarked.
Mpengesi added that the Chilli Boys cannot even use the Isaac Wolfsob Stadium in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha, because it’s not compliant just like Sisa Dukashe.
“Wolfson Stadium is also not compliant as per PSL standards. You know that the PSL is very strict when it comes to match venues. Buffalo City Stadium is the next better venue after the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium,” Mpengesi concluded.
