Maintaining his unbeaten record is all that Asemahle ‘Predator’ Wellem will be working for when he fights against Alexandre Kabangu Tshiamuanda better known as Alex Kabangu in boxing circles next month.

Wellem will test his fistic skills against Kabangu from the Democratic Republic of Congo when they meet in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa super-middleweight bout on Friday, 16 June.

“I want to continue winning. I want to maintain my unbeaten record. I’m going to knock him out,” a confident Chintsa-born Wellem remarked.

The 22-year-old Wellem, who won the South African super-middleweight title in only his fourth professional fight when he stopped Cowin Ray in October last year, added: “I have watched him before when he fought against (Luvuyo) Sizani. Actually, I was suppose to have fought against him in my second professional fight, but that didn’t happen. Now I’m meeting him and he does not scare me.”

Wellem, who left Vusi Mtolo and teamed up with former SA bantamweight champion Phumzile ‘Sweet Chocolate’ Matyhila earlier this year, has won all his five fights with three of them ending prematurely while 32-year-old Kabangu has registered six wins, four defeats and three draws.

Meanwhile, the Wellem-Kabangu bout is in the same bill as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title contest between reigning champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and challenger Regie Suganob from the Philippines.
