Spain won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament after they beat England 1-0 in a final played at Stadium Australia in Sydney on Sunday.

The only goal of the match came from La Roja captain Olga Carmona, who beat England goalkeeper Mary Earps with a grass cutter in the 29th minute following a pass from Mariona Caldentey.

Spain all-time top goalscorer Jennifer Hermoso failed to score from the spot kick as her penalty was saved by Earps after match referee Toro Penso from the United States had awarded the Spaniards a penalty following a hand ball by Keira Walsh.

Action swung from end to end as both teams wanted to score, however the scoreline remained in favour of Spain even though there was 13 minutes added time.
