After being involved in a number of international bouts against overseas opponents, the idea of fighting for the South African junior-bantamweight title does not appeal much to Phumelela “The Truth” Cafu.

The unbeaten Cafu from Duncan Village in East London is, however, not entirely against fighting for the vacant SA junior-bantamweight title, which was vacated by his stablemate Landile Ngxeke.

“I can’t say I’m excited. The most important thing to me is to campaign internationally. But since Ngxeke has vacated the title I will take that opportunity. It’s not like I’m really interested in the SA title. My dream is to become a world champion,” Cafu said.

Cafu is rated number one in South Africa with a professional record of nine wins (seven knockouts) and three draws. He is rated in the top 15 ratings of the world’s top four boxing bodies.

The 25-year-old lad is rated 13th by the World Boxing Council (WBC), 14th on the World Boxing Association (WBA) ratings, eighth by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) rates him in 15th spot.

“It’s really hard to find boxers being rated in all the top bodies. If it happens that I fight for the SA title, remember nothing has been decided yet, I won’t have a problem as long as I will be active. My main focus is to be active. But truly speaking, I’m really not interested in the SA title,” Cafu concluded.
