Mzuvukile ‘Old Bones’ Magwaza had a very long trip as he left Cape Town on Saturday afternoon and landed in Mexico on Monday morning (Mexican time) ahead of his fight against Bryan Mercado Vazquez.
Magwaza flew out of the Cape Town International Airport to Istanbul, Turkye, and then a spent a night there before continuing with his journey to Mexico to face Vazquez in a World Boxing Council (WBC) International junior-featherweight title contest at Domo de La Feria, Fresnillo, this coming Friday.
“It was a long trip as we took 11 hours from Cape Town to Turkye. We slept over in Turkye before we took another 14 hours to Mexico,” Magwaza told Ink Sport.
The former World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight champion has fought three times – winning twice and losing once – since he made a ring return after he was shot in the leg during a robbery at his home in Site C, Khayelitsha, early in 2018.
The Duncan Village-born Magwaza’s comeback victories were stoppages against Sanele Maduna and Nasiphi Mdlangazi. He suffered a points loss to former South African junior-bantamweight champion Sabelo Ngebiyana.
Magwaza has registered 22 victories (13 knockouts) a loss and three draws while will Vazquez has a professional record of 26 wins (21 stoppages) and one defeat.
The 27-year-old Vazquez, who was born in Mexico City, registered seven stoppages in his last 10 wins.
