Outright ownership of the South African female junior-featherweight belt is what’s driving champion boxer Matshidiso ‘Scorpion Queen’ Mokatsane as she dreams of successfully defending her crown five times.
The Kroonstad-born Mokatsane defended her SA title for the fourth time when she outpointed Monalisa Takane from Kirkwood, Eastern Cape, at The Ridge Casino in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, on Sunday evening.
“I enjoyed myself during the fight. It wasn’t tough. I fought better than I did when we fought last year. She never troubled me this time,” Mokatsane said referring to her fight against Takane.
Sunday’s shootout was a rematch of the two boxers’ drawn fight, which was held at the Feathermarket Theatre in Gqeberha last October.
“I have already defended the title four times. My dream is to become the outright owner of the belt. I think my next defence is gonna happen soon,” the 34-year-old Mokatsane remarked.
Meanwhile, former national bantamweight champion Bukiwe ‘Anaconda’ Nonina was the first female boxer to become an outright owner of a South African belt after she made her fifth defence in 2016.
