There were times when it looked like the 2023 Cricket World Cup match was going to slip out of the Proteas’ hands, but in the end it worked very well for them as they beat Afghanistan by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday evening.
Chasing 245 runs to win, the Proteas struggled a bit before they knocked 247 for five with 15 balls to spare as Rassie van der Dussen hit an unbeaten 76 after facing 95 balls.
Van der Dussen was ably assisted by Andile Phehlukwayo, who knocked 39 runs off 37 deliveries as they replied to Afghanistan’s 244 all out.
