The newly-appointed board of Boxing South Africa (BSA), which is led by its chairperson Sifiso Shongwe, has been given the thumbs up by the Eastern Cape Boxing Managers and Trainers Association.
Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa announced the new seven-member board in Pretoria on Tuesday. The board is made up of Shongwe, Luxolo September, Sakhiwe Sodo, Romy Titus, Nande Mheshe, Princess Mangoma and Dr Mary-Gene Manthata-Setati.
“The Eastern Cape Boxing Managers and Trainers Association welcomes the new boxing board appointed by the Minister. We commit to work with the board and support it in developing boxing in SA. As managers and trainers we have been entrusted by the government through the boxing Act and the parents of the children in our care to develop and guide them to realise their full potential. We dare not fail them in this task,” a statement from the managers and trainers association said on Thursday.
“We believe that the seemingly intractable challenges attending boxing in our county would be better managed and resolved by the new board when they are collectively informed by a staying determination and commitment to succeed.”
Shongwe and his colleagues are going to start working on Tuesday, 12 December, and their three-year term in office will expire in December 2026.
