Having helped Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga reclaim the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title with a 10th round stoppage victory over Mexican boxer Adrian Curiel Dominguez more than a week ago, Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan is now assisting Ghanaian boxer Alfred Lamptey as he wants to maintain his unbeaten record.
Nathan has travelled to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where Lamptey is going to clash against Jaouad ‘The Moroccan Bomber’ Belmehdi in a junior-lightweight clash at the Yas Links Golf Course this coming Saturday.
And after watching fights of Belmehdi, a former French lightweight champion, Nathan said: “Tall, upright, very awkward. Punches wide at times which is strange because of his height.”
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old unbeaten Lamptey from Accra in Ghana has been preparing for the Belmehdi fight at Nathan’s Hotbox Gym in Johannesburg since late last month.
Lamptey, who is trained by Ebenezer Adjei, is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth Silver, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Youth and Ghanaian junior-lightweight champion. He has won all his 13 fights with nine of those wins coming from knockouts while 25-year-old Belmehdi has a professional record of 19 victories (nine stoppages), a loss and three draws.
