After announcing in August last year that he was quitting boxing to concentrate on his ancestral calling, former South African welterweight champion Mziwoxolo Ndwayana has now decided to return to the fistic sport.

Ndwayana from Makhanda in the Eastern Cape quit boxing after he answered to his ancestral calling last year. However, he has revealed that things are back to normal now thus he’s coming back to boxing.

“I’m back as a boxer now. I have finished my journey as a sangoma. I have done everything that I was instructed to do and I feel strong now. I’m still a Boxing South Africa licensee and my licence is going to expire on the 31st of March,” Ndwayana said.

The former national champion, who lost his father Bulelani in March last year, won the SA title after he stopped Shaun Ness in September 2018 and was dethroned by Thulani Mbenge in December 2020.

With a record of 21 wins (14 stoppages), seven defeats and two draws, Ndwayana last fought when he defeated Ugandan boxer Nicholas Jooga at the Babs Madlakane Hall in KwaNobuhle, Kariega, in December 2022.
