With just over a week before her next tournament, Nomvelo Magcaba-Shezi of Mvelo Promotions is quite happy with how preparations for the event set for Durban’s Olive Convention Centre are going.
The tournament is going to be headlined by a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver cruiserweight title contest between Thabiso ‘The Rock’ Mchunu from KwaXimba and Argentine boxer Yamil Alberto Peralta Jara on Friday next week.
This is going to be Mchunu’s first fight since he lost to Ilunga Junior Makabu from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a WBC cruiserweight title shootout in January 2022.
“I’m very happy that the tournament will finally take place after some uncertainty. It’s been very difficult to organise this tournament because of what’s been happening in South African boxing,” Magcaba-Shezi, who revealed that the Argentines are going to land in Durban on Tuesday, said.
Currently, the 36-year-old Mchunu is rated number three in the latest WBC ratings while the 32-year-old Argentine boxer is one place below him.
Meanwhile, Mchunu’s stablemate and South African welterweight champion Thulani ‘Evolution’ Mbenge faces Argentine opponent Leandro Ariel Fonseca in a 10 rounds international bout.
