World champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke will be watching next Saturday’s shootout between Ricardo Malajika and Marcel Braithwaite from Liverpool, England, with keen interest.
Malajika is scheduled to make his first defence of the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight title when he clashes against the Liverpudlian at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park.
“There’s a possibility that Jackson will fight against Malajika provided Malajika wins on Saturday next week. Jackson will then challenge for Malajika’s title,” Chauke’s trainer Damien Durandt said.
“That Jackson will fight in the junior-bantamweight division has nothing to do with whether he’s struggling to make the flyweight division or not. At 38, Jackson makes the flyweight division easily. I still believe that the flyweight division is the best for him. However, I believe that a fight against Malajika is what South Africa would like to see thus we will challenge him.”
Chauke from Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, is the reigning IBO flyweight champion, a title he won after he outpointed Quaise Khademi in London, England, two months ago.
And Durandt has added that there’s no point of talking about what would happen to the IBO flyweight title should Chauke decide to challenge Malajika.
