Having led his boxer Vusumuzi Ngcamu to victory during a Gauteng junior-featherweight title fight against Bheki Maitse on Sunday, trainer Alan Toweel now wants Bongani Mahlangu.

Boipatong-based Mahlangu, the current South African junior-featherweight champion, is Maitse’s dad and Toweel believes that Ngcamu can score a double against father and son.

“It was a very good, hard and close fight. My boy won well, he won clear. Now we wanna defeat the father for allowing his son to fight us. We want the father now, Vusi deserves a shot in the SA title,” Toweel said.

Ngcamu, who was rated in fifth position in the March ratings, handed the talented Maitse his first career loss in five bouts.

Meanwhile, Mahlangu has been an SA junior-featherweight champion since he stopped Ayabonga Sonjica in the sixth round in East London in July 2022. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
