Phakamile Jacobs is gone and there’s no doubt that boxing followers will never forget him as long as he lives.

The ousting of the once powerful and controversial Jacobs from power has been widely celebrated from down in the Western Cape to the north in Limpopo.

Such was the joy and jubilation in so much that it looked like boxing lovers had been waiting for centuries for Jacobs’ reign as Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in the Eastern Cape to come to end.

Looking at the last few years, one is inclined to believe that Jacobs was the main architect of his own demise. He has had countless indiscretions and was somehow a law unto himself.

How he interacted with licensees neither won him any accolades or friends except those who used him to push their own agendas.

It was hilarious to read people’s comments on stories about him being replaced as some even suggested that long-suffering East London boxing lovers should have a year long braai to celebrate Jacobs’ departure from the fistic sport.

There’s a very big lesson that has to be learnt from the Jacobs saga. A lesson that all of us fallible human beings should learn is that we must, at all times, respect other people and also dish out equal treatment to all. We should always strive to make sure that we avoid Animal Farm tendencies.
