It has emerged that the amounts owed to Boxing South Africa (BSA) by different promoters are not the same and some can even settle 100 percent of their debts in one go instead of the 30 percent the regulator has asked for.

This was revealed by BSA board member Dr Luvuyo Bayeni during the boxing regulator’s press conference at the Garden Court OR Tambo this past weekend.

Currently, 27 promoters owe the boxing regulator more than R6 million with one promoter owing in excess of R2m. And the majority of the promoters, if not all, who owe BSA are black.

“We had a presentation that was projecting the range of amount owed. As much as there are extreme amounts, but it’s not everyone who owes an extreme amount,” Bayeni said.

“There are those promoters we are of the opinion that they may even opt to pay 100 percent instead of the 30 percent. The range is not as bad and huge as it might be.”

Bayeni added that BSA is open to negotiations should promoters wish to speak and make payment arrangements with the regulator. And in a bid to create a better working environment, BSA will have a three-day stakeholder engagement from Friday, 28 June until Sunday the 30th.

“We are starting on a good note. The ‘Let’s Talk’ theme is coming to play. As a board, we want to see the frankness, the openness, the realities being brought to the table. In the board we are embracing each other’s diversity,” Bayeni remarked. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
