The cloud surrounding Sunday’s boxing tournament, which is going to be jointly promoted by Xaba Promotions and Zbashy Promotions, at the Orient Theatre in East London, is gone at last.
This follows after there was uncertainty around the tournament regarding whether the two promotional outfits had made any arrangements with Boxing South Africa (BSA) regarding their financial obligations to the regulator.
“The tournament is continuing on 30 June 2024 as the promoter, Xaba, approached BSA for an arrangement. This is a practice that we encourage and appreciate as we want tournament activity. As per our circular, BSA is open to engage and we encourage this approach as boxing must be the winner after all,” acting BSA chief executive officer Mandla Ntlanganiso said on Monday.
The tournament is headlined by a clash between South African bantamweight champion Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke and Filipino boxer Jerald Paclar in an international 10 rounds bout. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
