Tanzanian boxers Jesca Mfinanga and Egine Kayange finally afforded a smile after receiving their purses following their losses to Simangele Hadebe and Monica Mkandla respectively.
However, the purses were not paid by Fantastic 2 Boxing Promotions boss Elias Tshabalala, who promoted the tournament where the two lasses fought.
After seeing that Tshabalala was not coming through with the payment, Boxing South Africa (BSA) sent acting director of operations Mncedisi Ngqumba to speak to the Tanzanians on Monday and the regulator intervened by paying the boxers’ purses on Tuesday.
Innocent Evarist, who came to the country with the boxers, said: “I have good news now. I’m very happy because we’ve got the money. BSA paid the money. Mr Ngqumba is a good man. I love him. He delivered on his promises.”
Evarist added: “I don’t have a problem with bringing boxers here again. But I’m not going to work with Elias again. I don’t trust him.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
