Veteran boxer Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu is scheduled to defend his South African junior-featherweight title against Siyabulela Hem in Midrand on Saturday, 31 August.
Mahlangu’s fight against Hem is going to be on the undercard of the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-flyweight title contest between Mpumelelo Tshabalala and Junior Leandro Zareta from Argentina.
Mahlangu will be attempting to make a third successful defence of the title he won after he stopped Ayabonga Sonjica in the sixth round at the Orient Theatre in East London in July 2022. The 45-year-old Mahlangu last defended his title when he defeated Luthando Mbumbulwana in September.
Hem, meanwhile, will go to battle against Mahlangu on the back of a third round stoppage win over Lihle Gingxana in June. The current Eastern Cape champion’s record stands at six wins with four knockouts, a loss and a draw.
