Former Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in the Eastern Cape Phakamile Jacobs has decided against commenting on the case he brought against the regulator.
Ink Sport has been informed that Jacobs has taken legal action against BSA citing “unfair” dismissal.
Contacted for comment on Monday, Jacob, a former ring official, said: “I’d rather not comment on this.”
And the chairperson of the BSA board Sifiso Shongwe has denied that the regulator sacked Jacobs earlier this year.
“Mr Jacobs was not dismissed by BSA. As far as I understand the process as I was briefed, one position was made redundant by the entity. There was an advertisement for all available candidates to apply for the role of Eastern Cape provincial manager amalgamating Gqeberha and eMonti,” Shongwe explained.
“After the applications were completed, those successful candidates had an opportunity for interviews for the position. Siya Vabaza-Booi was placed as the new provincial manager in the Eastern Cape. That is how the process went.”
Shongwe concluded: “I am not aware that Mr Jacobs was dismissed by BSA. His contract had come to an end. He was afforded the opportunity to interview for the position.”
Meanwhile, there was jubilation from all provinces after BSA announced that Siya Vabaza-Booi had been appointed as the new Eastern Cape provincial manager replacing Jacobs two months ago. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
