The husband and wife combination of boxing trainer Immanuel Mutavhatsindi and his Bethlehem-born wife Nosiacwase Dube-Mutavhatsindi bore fruits at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Tuesday evening.
The Mutavhatsindis invaded Pietermaritzburg and will return to their Johannesburg home triumphant after Dube-Mutavhatsindi dethroned South African female junior-bantamweight champion Thema Zuma at a Mvelo Promotions tournament.
All three judges nodded in unison saying that Dube-Mutavhatsindi did enough to wrestle the SA title away from Zuma.
Dube-Mutavhatsindi and Zuma have fought against the same opponents – Chimwewe Banda as well as Bathabile Ziqubu – in the past. Dube-Mutavhatsindi defeated Banda while she scored a draw and lost to Ziqubu. On the other hand, Zuma beat Banda and defeated Ziqubu on two occasions.
