Johannesburg-based boxing trainer Sean Smith is in no hurry and has made it clear that he’s not going to rush and throw his unbeaten startlet Lindokuhle Khuzwayo to the wolves.

Smith was responding after Xaba Promotions boss Ayanda Matiti dressed down his Kay B Promotions counterpart Mzi Booi over whether a fight between Khuzwayo and reigning South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi would go ahead or not.

“I’m not too concerned about the politics. The boy is still too young and has a bright future. I don’t want to rush Khuzwayo, he’s only 21. We shouldn’t be greedy. The kid needs to be groomed properly before challenging for the SA title. I would understand the rush if he was maybe 28 years old,” Smith said.

Khuzwayo, who is going to celebrate his 22nd birthday in August this year, is rated fourth in the latest Boxing South Africa (BSA) ratings and he comes off two impressive victories. Born in Maphumulo, Khuzwayo has won all his five fights with three of those victories coming via knockouts. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
