Mamelodi Sundowns reached the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup after they defeated Limpopo amateur side Mpheni Home Defenders 2-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

The Brazilians’ goals were scored inside 30 minutes of the first half by Tashreeq Matthews and Bathusi Aubaas. Sundowns took the lead when Matthews back heeled into the net eight minutes from the start and Aubaas added the second goal in the 27th minute.

The Tshwane giants were reduced to 10 men after match referee Msimeleli Mabuto gave Matthews a red card five minutes into the second half.
