Originally set for Saturday, 24 May, Lwando Mgabi’s defence of his South African junior-bantamweight title against Sechaba Zuma has now been moved to next month.
The Duncan Village-born Mgabi will put his national title on the line when he meets Zuma, the number one contender, at the Estcourt Town Hall in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 7 June.
“Yes, the date of the fight has been changed and moved to the seventh of June. The date change is not a problem to us because we will go there and win the fight,” Mgabi remarked.
Mgabi will be making the first defence of the SA title he won after he defeated Sihle Jelwana on points at the Sunningdale Sport Complex in Milnerton, Cape Town, last September.
Now based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, the 23-year-old Mgabi is yet to lose having won all his seven fights with two of those wins coming from stoppages.
With a record of four wins with one knockout, two losses and a draw, Zuma hasn’t fought since he defeated Mthobisi Nkosi at the Portuguese Hall, Durban, in August last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
