Having won all his seven fights with four of those wins coming from the short distance, Kaya Mlata’s trainer Felix Venganayi is quietly building him up as he continues to impress inside the ring.

Originally from KwaBhaca in the Eastern Cape, Mlata’s most recent win was against former South African junior-bantamweight champion Sabelo Ngebiyane in Cape Town last month.

The 24-year-old Mlata, who’s based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, defied the odds and defeated Ngebiyane after it was thought that he was going to lose against his more experienced opponent.

“He is a good guy and we have big plans for him. And he’s rated 66th by Boxrec,” Mlata’s trainer Felix Venganayi remarked.

Now Venganayi is waiting for the confirmation of Mlata’s next opponent as he’s going to fight at a Golden Gloves tournament early in July.

“We will be fighting again in July. If we win, we will be involved in a big fight at another Golden Gloves tournament in October. I hope he will break into the top 30 Boxrec ratings after fighting at the tournament in July,” Venganayi said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
