Lindelani Sibisi ended Zolisa Batyi’s two-and-a-half-year reign as a South African featherweight champion as he stopped him in the 10th round at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday evening.
Sibisi, who was an aggressor during the fight, decked Batyi three times – once in the ninth and twice in the 10th round.
The Dundee-born new champion made it clear from the first bell that he came to East London just to dethrone Batyi, who offered almost nothing to neutralise Sibisi’s right hand which landed at will.
Meanwhile, two previously unbeaten boxers Simamkele Singile and Amzolele Dyeyi gave boxing fans their money’s worth as they hammered each other with hard blows.
And at the end of the six gruelling rounds, Mdantsane-born Dyeyi, who is based in Gauteng, emerged victorious against Duncan Village-based Singile via a split decision.
Nqaba Dantile from Makhaza in Cape Town put up a beautiful performance as he outpointed Athenkosi Tunzi on points with Lonwabo Sizani stopping Aviwe Mpayipeli in the second round and Oyisa Gingxana defeating Anivuyi Wali on points.
