The serious lack of opponents in female boxing will see current South African female mini-flyweight champion Thobela Nyanda and Yonelisa Poni fighting against each other for the third successive time on Friday, 20 June.
Already, Nyanda has had the better of Poni, beating her in both the two fights they have engaged in. The last time Nyanda defeated Poni was when they clashed in an SA female mini-flyweight title contest in Wells Estate, Gqeberha, in October 2023.
The unbeaten Nyanda, a Female Prospect of the Year nominee at the 2023 South African Boxing Awards, has not fought since she beat Poni on points in Gqeberha. And Nyanda has registered three stoppages in her four wins.
On the other hand, Poni, who has two wins with two knockouts and three losses, defeated Namhla Mankayi in Mdantsane in October last year.
