Following their wins this past Sunday, Hlumelo and his brother Oyisa Gingxana from Braelyn in East London feel that they are now ready to fight for Eastern Cape titles.
Hlumelo stopped Ndibulele Ngqamza from Ginsberg, Qonce, in the fourth round during their clash at the Guild Theatre in East London. Oyisa, on the other hand, scored a points victory over Chicken Farm’s Athule Ncedani in the same tournament.
Hlumelo has now lodged a challenge to fight against Eastern Cape lightweight champion Siseko Makeleni while Oyisa has challenged provincial junior-bantamweight titlist Enathi Stelle.
“Hlumelo and Oyisa have challenged both Makeleni and Stelle,” Lonwabo Witbooi, who trains the Gingxana brothers, confirmed on Thursday.
Makeleni, a former South African junior-welterweight title contender, is yet to fight since he was stopped by Kaine Fourie in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa lightweight bout in Booysens, Johannesburg, in June last year.
Stelle, who made an unsuccessful attempt to win the SA junior-bantamweight title in December 2023, was stopped by Zimbabwean boxer Ndabenhle Phiri in Kempton Park five months ago.
