Stopped in the seventh round by newly-crowned International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion José Manuel Salas Reyes on Sunday morning, South African time, Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke is going to return to Mexico next year.
Ngxeke’s return to the Central American country was sealed by Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan from NO DOUBT Management and BXSTRS Promotions chief executive officer Juan Carlos Torres.
After meeting early on Monday morning, South African time, Nathan and Torres agreed that a rematch with Reyes would be a natural progression given the unhappiness around the stoppage by Mexican referee Alfredo Uruzquieta.
“The plan is to get Landie back out here in Mexico before May next year. He gave a great account of himself and we will get him back with a win, then arrange the rematch between Reyes and Ngxeke the day before the Mexico v South Africa World Cup match,” Torres said.
Bafana Bafana and Mexico are scheduled to meet in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on 11 June next year.
Meanwhile, Nathan and Torres, who entered into a mutually beneficial partnership, have conducted business all over the world.
“JC and I have always had a solid relationship,” Nathan said after the meeting between the two.
There’s a likelihood that the collaboration between Nathan and Torres might result in Mexican and South African fighters fighting in both countries in future.
Torres’ BXSTRS Promotions is one of the most prominent promotional outfits in Mexico. Just like NO DOUBT Management, BXSTRS has strong relations with Akihiko Honda’s Teiken Promotions and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Promotions.
