Back with the trainer who guided him to South African featherweight title glory, Zolisa Batyi won his first fight since May as he defeated Awonke Tini at the Venue, Hemingways, in East London on Tuesday.

Batyi had 2023 Trainer of the Year award winner Khangelani Jack on his corner as he outpointed Tini in the debut tournament of Lakhe Boxing Promotions. This was Batyi’s first fight since he was dethroned by Lindelani Sibisi at the Orient Theatre in East London seven months ago.

Meanwhile, former SA minimumweight and junior-flyweight champion Siphamandla Baleni lost on points to Abongile Jacob.

This was Mthatha-born Baleni’s first fight since his loss to top rated Zimbabwean boxer Beaven Sibanda at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, in June last year.
