Boxing trainer Ncedo Cecane is planning a ‘heist’ as he wants to score a double when he ushers two of his boxers – a champion and a challenger – to South African title contests at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday.
The former South African flyweight chmpion will man the corners of Thinumzi Gqola and Lubabalo Kweyi when they take on Mthokozisi Ngxaka and Asanda Gingqi respectively.
Gqola from Duncan Village in East London will square up against Mthatha-born Ngxaka in an SA minimumweight title rematch, which was ordered by Boxing South Africa (BSA) following the review of their August fight. On the other hand, Kweyi will be seeking to dethrone Gingqi, the reigning SA junior-lightweight champion.
“My plan is to go to Orient Theatre with one title and then go back home with two titles. We want to keep what we have and gain another as we close the year. I think it will be really great to add a new title,” Cecane remarked.
Kweyi, the current Eastern Cape junior-lightweight champion, qualified to set up an all-Mdantsane shootout with Gqingi by virtue of being rated second by Boxing South Africa (BSA). – Monwabisi Jimlongo
