Thinumzi Gqola proved that he really won his last fight against Mthokozisi Ngxaka as he outpointed the Mthatha-born boxer at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening.
Gqola retained the South African minimumweight title following a unanimous points decision victory over Ngxaka whom he had dethroned previously. After 12 rounds of action, judge Allen Matakane scored the fight 117-112, Siphiwo Mbini 119-109 and Thandi Ngondwana 117-111.
This rematch was ordered by Boxing South Africa (BSA) following a review of their first fight, which was won by Gqola at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, four months ago.
