The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia have had a very good start at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, beating Uganda’s Cranes 3-1 in their opening match at the Olympique Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Ellyes Skhiri and Elias Achouri gave the Carthage Eagles a 2-0 lead at interval. Achouri pulled one back to make it 3-0 in the second half before Denis Omedi scored the Cranes’ consolation goal. 

In other matches, Theo Bongonda’s goal earned the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) their first win of the tournament as they defeated Benin 1-0 with the Teranga Lions of Senegal walloping Botswana 3-0 with Nicolas Jackson’s brace and a a strike from Cherif Ndiaye. 

Meanwhile, it was a positive start for the Nigerian Super Eagles as they overcame Tanzania’s Taifa Stars 2-1.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring for the Super Eagles before Charles M’Mombwa for Tanzania and Ademola Lookman scored Nigeria’s winning goal.
