Fresh from a fourth round technical knockout win over Lwando Mgabi, Moyisi Booi’s signing of a new promotional contract with Xaba Promotions has drawn accusations of the use of strong arm tactics.

Bongani Bozo, who recently signed a managerial contract Booi, has alleged that he was sidelined when the deal was signed after he had initially asked to take the unsigned contract to his lawyer.

Now Bozo believes that Booi, the reigning South African junior-bantamweight champion, was “strong armed” into signing the contract in his absence.

Ink Sport can reveal that while the Xaba Promotions tournament was underway at the Orient Theatre in East London on the 19th of December, Booi was called to a meeting where a contract was presented to him. However, Booi didn’t sign the contract after Bozo asked for it to be first perused by his lawyer.

“The contract was not signed on the day we had a meeting because we were not happy with it and we wanted to take it my lawyer. The contract was, however, signed on another day without me being present as Booi’s manager. I really don’t know why BSA allowed that,” Bozo remarked.

Bozo added: “The contract was signed in the presence of Mandla Ntlanganiso from BSA, Bro Vido Mtekwana and Booi’s father. Bear in mind that both Bro Vido and Booi’s father are not BSA licensees.”

Interestingly, Eastern Cape BSA manager Siya Vabaza-Booi was not part of the meeting where the contract was signed.

“I can see now that I have become a problem because I ask a lot of questions. What happened is very bad. Actually, a lot of things are happening in the background,” Bozo said.

In his response, Ntlanganiso, the BSA director of operations, said: “There is no such a thing that there is a boxer who signed a contract under duress. On Friday, 19 December 2025, a meeting was held at Kennaway Hotel with all parties concerned with the boxers’ manager present. All clauses of the contract were read to all parties and everyone had an opportunity to ask questions and the questions were responded to.

“Upon that boxers requested more time to go and consult further with their parents and that was allowed. On Tuesday, 23 December at ICC boxers, Siyabulela Hem and Moyisi Booi, came to the session accompanied by their parents, same process happened and all parties were asked if they understood and are clear and comfortable to sign. Whoever was not willing to sign had an opportunity  not to do so. Our role is clear, it is that of facilitating and we did exactly that. We will never allow boxers to sign under duress in our presence.

“The boxer’s manager was there in the first meeting and he voiced his concerns. The meeting was then re-arranged and he was absent. The boxer came with his father and then signed the contract.

“This all happened in the absence of the Boxing South Africa provincial manager. The absence of the provincial manager doesn’t mean that the work can’t be done when I’m present.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
