The Eagles of Mali marched to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament after they defeated Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 3-2 on penalties at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, on Saturday evening.
This match was decided on spot kicks after the two sides had played to a 1-1 draw in two hours of football. The Carthage Eagles had scored first through Firas Chaouat in the 88th minute and Lassine Sinayoko equalised from the penalty spot in referee’s added time.
Meanwhile, the Teranga Lions came from behind to beat Sudan 3-1 in an earlier match played at the Tangier Grand Stadium.
Aamir Yunis Abdallah gave the Sudanese a sixth minute lead when he scored off Walieldin Khedr Safour Daiyeen’s assist. However, Pape Alassane Gueye equalised for the Teranga Lions in the 29th minute after he was set up by Sadio Mane.
Gueye completed his brace from a Nicolas Jackson assist in referee’s added time. And Ibrahim Mbaye made it 3-1 after an assist from Mane in the 78th minute.
