Hlumelo Gingxana from Braelyn in East London has finally achieved what he had been chasing since last year as he won the Eastern Cape lightweight at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre on Komani on Saturday.

Gingxana registered a second round technical knockout win over Aphiwe Magobiyane from Gqeberha. As a result of the stoppage, Gingxana won the vacant Eastern Cape lightweight title.

The title had become vacant after Boxing South Africa (BSA) stripped former champion Siseko Makeleni last month. Makeleni forced BSA to strip him after ducking and diving while he was due to face off against Gingxana since last year.

Meanwhile, Mdantsane-born Amzolele Dyeyi stretched his winning streak to five wins with three knockouts after he stopped Mawethu Limo from Ncera in the third round in the main supporting bout.

Mpumelelo Nyalela defeated Hlumelo Makhonco on points with Chumani Ngqeleni defeating Sibusiso Moyakhe via a split decision. Sinoxolo Zonke beat Sikhokele Nyamakazi by a third round technical knockout and Abenathi Magoqoza stopped Likho Mshweshwe in the first round.
