Siyakholwa Kuse is planning to upset the applecart and make sure that an all-Filipino World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight title fight does not take place.
And to make sure that doesn’t happen, the Mdantsane-born boxer is determined to defeat Joey Canoy when they clash in a WBC minimumweight elimination bout at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 28 March. The winner of this bout will challenge WBC minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem from the Philippines.
“Preparations for this fight are going very well. I think it’s a matter of a must that Canoy loses because I believe it won’t be nice to have two Filipino boxers fighting for the WBC title. I must stop that from happening,” Kuse remarked.
Kuse will be going to the Canoy fight on the back of a loss to Jerusalem whom he challenged in Manila, Philippines, last October. On the other hand, Canoy has not fought since his 10th round stoppage win over Vietnamese boxer Minh Phat Sam in a WBC International minimumweight title fight in April last year.
Meanwhile, Canoy is on a nine-fight unbeaten streak having last lost when he was beaten by Nhlanhla Tyirha from Mdantsane at the International Convention Centre in KuGompo City in May 2021.
Canoy, however, is still chasing his first victory over a South African boxer as he registered losses against Tyirha, Nkosinathi Joyi and Hekkie Budler. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
