Eastern Cape boxer Zolisa Batyi has been offered an opportunity to become a champion yet again when he travels to fight in Windhoek, Namibia, in just over two months’ time.
Batyi from Nxarhuni will challenge Namibia’s reigning World Boxing Organisation (WBO) All-Africa featherweight champion Mateus ‘The Beast’ Heita on Saturday, 25 April.
This fight will give Batyi an opportunity to have a belt strapped around his waist yet again after he lost his South African featherweight title to Lindelani Sibisi following a 10th round stoppage at the Orient Theatre, East London, in May last year.
“We have signed the contract and we are going to fight in Namibia against Heita in April,” Batyi’s trainer Khangelani Jack confirmed.
The former national champion is going to be Heita’s third opponent from South Africa. The Namibian, who is rated 10th by the WBO, outpointed Capetonian Abdul-Aziz Kunert in Windhoek last April and also overcame former World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-featherweight champion Thato Bonokoane in August 2024.
Meanwhile, the Namibian has a professional record of 15 victories with 10 knockouts and one defeat.
And Heita’s only loss came during a fight against current World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Bruce Carrington at the Madison Square Garden in New York, United States of America (USA) in July last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
