One-time South African featherweight title contender Yamkela Phaliso has joined forces with Andile Mshumpela from Mshu One Managament in a bid to revive his flagging boxing career.

Previously, Phaliso was under Mlandeli Tengimfene’s management and he trained at All Winners Boxing Club in Mdantsane. Phaliso will now train at Luvuyo Boxing Club, which is also based in Mdantsane.

“After his loss to Fule, I knew that I would love to have him as one of my boxers. He was dangerous throughout that fight. Already, he has a fight lined up for him in May,” Mshumpela said.

Phaliso, who has three technical knockout wins and two losses in his last five fights, made an unsuccessful attempt to win the SA featherweight title in August 2024. He lost on points to then champion Zolisa Batyi at the Orient Theatre in KuGompo City.

Having a record of eight wins with seven knockouts and four losses, Phaliso is going to fight at the Busi J Promotions tournament scheduled for the NU 7 Community Hall in Mdantsane on Sunday, 3 May. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
