Just less than two months after he won the Eastern Cape lightweight title, Hlumelo Gingxana gets an opportunity to fight for the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) version of the crown.

Gingxana from Braelyn in KuGompo City is set to collide with Western Cape champion Mbuyiseli Ndukwana in a vacant IBO Africa like lightweight title fight at the Nangoza Jebe in New Brighton, Gqeberha, on Saturday, 25 April.

This is the second time that the two boxers clash as Gingxana won their first fight held at the International Convention Centre, KuGompo City, in October 2022.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity Hlumelo is getting and also this is part of gradually developing his career towards bigger things and bigger fights. As I said before, I’m not in any rush for the South African title,” Gingxana’s trainer Lonwabo Witbooi remarked.

Currently, Gingxana, who stopped Aphiwe Magobiyane in the second round early in February, is rated number three in South Africa while Ndukwana, a Western Cape lightweight champion, is two places above him.

Ndukwana from the Southern Cape town of Knysna has not fought since his fourth round technical knockout victory over Luthando Mkwini at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Gqeberha, in March last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
