More than a week after Brandon Thysse stopped Roarke Knapp at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, boxing promoter Rodney Berman is still raving about how the reigning South African and World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa super-middleweight champion went about doing his job.
Fighting for the third time against Knapp, Thysse ensured that he left the ring with his head held high as became R720 000 richer following the ninth round stoppage win.
“Brandon isn’t just fighting anymore, he’s performing with the precision of a man who finally knows exactly what he’s fighting for. Between the maturity, he’s found as a family man and the technical masterclass he’s putting on with Damien Durandt, we are looking at a fighter who is arguably in the best form of his life. The trilogy with Knapp is settled. Now, the world stage is the only logical next step,” Berman said.
Thysse made a statement, especially after fight referee Thabo Spampool had mistakenly judged him to have been decked by Knapp in the seventh round even though that was a slip.
And Thysse, who is the son of the late former SA super-middleweight champion Andre Thysse, is now set to headline a major bill against an international opponent. According to Berman, the aim of making sure that Thysse breaks into the world’s top 15.
