Juan Roux is grateful that he is not only going to defend his South African heavyweight crown, but will also fight for the African Boxing Union (ABU) title as well when he clashes with Josh Pretorius next month.
The two boxers are scheduled to square up against each other at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 26 March.
Roux won the SA heavyweight title when he defeated Tian Fick by a split decision in Cape Town in December last year. On the other hand, Pretorius lost to Fick while they were fighting for the same SA title in December 2020.
“The chance to fight for an ABU title came as a surprise to me. I’m very thankful. You know getting to fight for a belt is always a big thing. I’m still training and will go to the fight with the same mind,” Roux said.
The Cape Town-born champion, who has won all his six fights with two of those wins coming via the short distance, has revealed that he knows Pretorius well.
“I have been in boxing in South Africa for the last five years. Josh has been a fighter in South Africa for the past five years. I have seen all his fights and I know a lot about him,” Roux said.
