Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin became a unified middleweight champion after he stopped Japanese boxer Ryota Murata in the ninth round during their fight at the Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on Saturday.
As a result of the stoppage, the 40-year-old Golovkin added the World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight title to his International Boxing Federation (IBF) crown.
This was a tough fight as both boxers hammered each other, however, it was the Kazakh who prevailed against his 36-year-old opponent.
Golovkin, who improved his record to 42 wins with 37 knockouts, a loss and a draw, is going to face Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez later this year. Golovkin and Alvarez have met twice before with the Mexican winning once and the other fight ending in a draw.
