Cowin Ray became the second boxer to inflict a stoppage defeat to Andile Mntungwa when he stopped him at The Galleria in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.
Ray from Pretoria stopped Mntungwa in the third round thus making the first successful defence of his South African super-middleweight title.
After a sluggish first two rounds, Ray came out guns blazing in the third round. Ray’s flurry of body and head blows forced fight referee Simon Mokadi to intervene on behalf of Mntungwa.
Ray now has eight wins with six stoppages while Mntungwa from Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal dropped to six victories (four knockouts), five losses and a draw.
