It looks like no one is interested in promoting Thabiso Mchunu’s world title eliminator against Noel Gevor Mikaelyan whose real name is Norair Monsesovich Mikaelyan.
Four months ago the WBC ordered Mchunu to face off with the Armenia-born Germany-based Mikaelyan in an elimination bout with the winner guaranteed a crack at cruiserweight champion Ilunga ‘Junior’ Makabu’s title.
So far, promoters have not raised their hands indicating their willingness to promote the fight between the two boxers.
“It’s a bit of a situation thus the bout is going for purse bids on Tuesday. We tried to get people from KwaZulu-Natal to promote the fight, but we were unlucky because no one showed interest,” Mchunu’s trainer Sean Smith said.
The 34-year-old Mchunu, who is rated third by the WBC, has not fought since he lost to Makabu when he challenged him in the United States in January this year.
On the other hand, number two rated Mikaelyan beat France-based Youri Kayembe Kalenga from the DRC in a WBC Silver cruiserweight title fight in Latvia five months ago.
