Phumelela ‘Truth’ Cafu overwhelmed Filipino boxer Ben Mananquil and stopped him in the fifth round at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday evening.
As a result of the stoppage, Cafu won the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title by a technical knockout.
The lad from Duncan Village in East London, who turned 24 on Tuesday, celebrate his birthday in style.
Cafu took the fight to Mananquil from the first gong and landed some nice blows on the Filipino.
It was then no wonder that Cafu landed a right upper cut to the eye something which forced Mananquil to retreat and go down. His corner intervened and the fight ended with Cafu being the winner.
Meanwhile, Mpumelelo Tshabalala from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni successfully defended his South African junior-flyweight via a split decision win over Duncan Village’s Sikho Moshani.
