Following her loss to Katie Healy in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, in July, Matshidiso Mokebisi wants to atone for that defeat when she faces Monalisa Takane in two months’ time.
Mokebisi, who lost to Healy in a World Boxing Federation (WBF) female junior-featherweight title fight last month, will be defending her South African junior-featherweight crown when she clashes with Takane at the Feathermarket Theatre in Gqeberha on Sunday, 9 October.
“I’m very happy to get this opportunity after losing my recent fight to Katie. I really didn’t expect to fight so soon after that loss,” Mokebisi said.
Even though she’s happy to fight again, Kroonstad-born Mokebisi has admitted that Takane, an unbeaten four-fight novice, is a closed book to her.
“I don’t know much about her as she’s still new. However, I do know that she’s unbeaten, but that doesn’t bother me because I’m going to win,” she said.
Mokebisi will be returning to Gqeberha after almost a year since losing an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental junior-lightweight bout to Nozipho Bell at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton last December.
